What is RTP and why it matters

RTP (Return to Player) is the long-run percentage a slot returns to players. Learn how it works, what counts as good, and why it never guarantees a session.

RTP, or Return to Player, is the theoretical percentage of all wagered money a slot pays back over millions of spins. A 96% RTP means the game returns about $96 per $100 staked on average. The remaining percentage is the house edge.

Higher RTP is mathematically better for players: a 97% slot keeps 3% of turnover, a 94% slot keeps 6%. Over a long enough sample, that difference compounds. But RTP is a long-run average — any single session can swing far above or below it because of variance.

On Stake you can filter the slot catalog by RTP. Aim for 96%+ where possible, and remember that RTP and volatility together determine how a slot actually feels to play.
