Plinko — Stake Original Guide

Overview

Plinko is the most-played Stake Original. Drop a ball from the top of a triangular peg pyramid; the ball bounces left or right at each peg with roughly equal probability and lands in one of the bottom slots, each labelled with a multiplier. Pick low, medium, or high risk — and 8, 12, or 16 rows. The math model is fixed at 99% RTP regardless of settings.

Stake's Plinko is the digital descendant of the Japanese pachinko machine, popularised in the West by The Price Is Right. Stake added customisable risk profiles and multiplier tables published openly, making it one of the few casino games where the underlying math is fully transparent.

How it works

You set the bet amount, choose risk (low/medium/high), and choose row count (8/12/16). Each click drops one ball. The ball's path is determined by combining your client seed, Stake's server seed, and a per-bet nonce through HMAC-SHA256, then parsed as a sequence of 0/1 bits — left or right at each peg.

The probability of landing in slot k of n rows follows the binomial distribution: P(k) = C(n,k) × 0.5^n. The middle slots have the highest probability; the edge slots are statistically rare but pay the largest multipliers.

For 16-row Plinko, the published Stake multipliers are:

Combining each multiplier with its binomial probability yields a theoretical mean of approximately 0.99 across all three risk levels — that's the 99% RTP. The variance differs dramatically: low-risk variance is small, high-risk variance is enormous, but the mean is identical.

Strategy

There is no strategy that changes Plinko's expected value. The math is invariant across risk profiles and row counts. What strategy can do is reshape your variance:

• Low risk + 8 rows: tightest distribution, fewest outliers, longest play time per dollar.
• Medium risk + 12 rows: balanced — occasional 33× / 41× hits without burning bankroll.
• High risk + 16 rows: 1000× shots possible, but you'll lose 80%+ of balls completely.

For long sessions, choose low risk to maximise time-to-ruin. For shot-at-a-jackpot sessions with small bankroll, high risk gives you the upside but drains fast.
